Technical Procurement ManagerI first joined Burgess Farms in 2016 as a general operative in the Produce World factory in Sutton Bridge. Being from Greater London, I had no previous experience in farming and it certainly wasn’t a career or industry I ever pictured myself in! Despite this, when the chance to start an agronomy apprenticeship at Burgess Farms came up, I jumped at the new opportunity as anything scientific was always something I enjoyed throughout my school life.
The apprenticeship taught me so much, and, upon completion, I moved across into the procurement team at Burgess Farms and eventually ended up in my current role as Technical Procurement Manager. In this role, I am responsible for supplier compliance, variety development, fertiliser practices, and ultimately, bridging the gap between farm and factory.
Burgess Farms has massively supported my development since I joined the organisation. Over the years, I’ve had some brilliant mentors who have all been approachable, knowledgeable and able to share sound advice. Above all, they gave me a sense of empowerment which in turn gave me the confidence to be able to develop and grow in my career.

Customer Demand ManagerI started my journey at Burgess Farms in 2004 on a part time basis while I was still in college. After a couple of years, I joined the organisation full time and was responsible for sorting vegetables on the factory line, operating the forklift and packing our produce into the cold store. From there, I was given the opportunity to become a Planning Co-Ordinator at another site. I‘d done some Planning temporary cover work at Burgess Farms in the past and really enjoyed the experience so I jumped at the chance. This then led to me becoming the Planning Manager for the whole team at the Isleham site before moving back to the Sutton Bridge site to take up the role there.
After 7 and a half years as a Planning Manager, I was promoted to Customer Demand Manager. This role involves maintaining sales forecasts for the team at Sutton Bridge and working closely with the Procurement and Finance teams to ensure they have the information they need. In the role, I also work closely with the Senior Commercial Manager which means I learn a lot and stretch my thinking.
At Burgess Farms, I’ve had some incredible mentors who have supported my personal development. The Planning Manager that trained and helped me to get my previous role was incredible and his belief in me is the reason why I am where I am today.
Burgess Farms also gave me the opportunity to undertake a two-year MDS apprenticeship in 2019. I learnt how to manage different personalities and the importance of diverse leadership styles, and it was so useful to be able to put that into practice.

Supply Chain CoordinatorI started my journey at Burgess Farms, or, as it was called at the time, Isleham Fresh Produce, in 2009. That year, I moved from Poland to the UK so everything was completely new to me and I didn’t have a lot of experience. Back then, my title was General Operative and I was responsible for working in the warehouse, and sorting and packing the produce on the line.
After a few months, my supervisor encouraged me to do more; they mentioned that they could see my potential for growth and development. I quickly learnt how to operate a number of pieces of machinery in the warehouse and passed my forklift licence so that I could progress in the organisation and take on new roles and responsibilities.
Today, I am a Supply Chain Coordinator and you can typically find me managing our stock levels, ensuring all orders are delivered on time, and planning how our supply chain processes can be improved. The team at Burgess Farms, and particularly my old supervisor, have been excellent in helping me grow in my career. Professionally, they gave me opportunities to develop, and personally, they helped me settle into life in the UK.
